The Carteia Archeological Site dates from the 7th century BC and includes remains from the Phoenician, Carthaginian, Roman, Visigothic, Byzantine, Moorish and Christian eras. This ancient city was the most important in the Campo de Gibraltar area and became the first Free Latin Colony outside of present-day Italy in 171 BC.

Finca La Alcaidesa

"Finca La Alcaidesa" is a country estate, property of the Junta de Andalucía (the regional government), is one of the borough's best kept secrets bordering the Northeast of Pinar del Rey. It is an unequalled area; very close to Sotogrande, the Los Alcornocales Natural Park and Gibraltar; in which there is fantastic accommodation and a wealth of ecotourism activites. A stay here is unforgettable as you are immersed in an unspoilt natural environemnt with a tremendous diversity of flora and fauna.

Guadiaro River Estuary & Torreguadiaro Lagoon

Guadiaro River Estuary and Torreguadiaro Lagoon are two of the most relevant nature spots in the borough of San Roque. The river estuary is located at the rivermouth, in the heart of Sotogrande Costa. Torreguadiaro Lagoon is situated between Sotogrande Marina and the village of Torreguadiaro. Both nature areas are wetland areas of great importance for many species of birds and excellent points of observation for ornithologists interested in the Strait of Gibraltar as a migratory route between Europe and Africa.

Pinar del Rey

Pinar del Rey is a suburban park spanning 338 hectares at the heart of the local region. This unique forest paradise has an intriguing story that began in 1800 when the Spanish Navy planted trees to supply timber for warships. Today Pinar del Rey and the Alcornocales Natural Park are the natural lungs of the Campo de Gibraltar area.

The Historic Centre of the Campo de Gibraltar area

San Roque has a collection of listed historical buildings that are the oldest and best preserved in the Campo de Gibraltar area. The most important monuments in the City of Gibraltar in Exile are Saint Mary the Crowned Parish Church, the Governer's Palace and the Bullring.

Alcaidesa Heathland Golf Course

This golf course, designed by Dave Thomas, offers a variety of landscapes which span outwards from a plateau (holes 1 to 5, 17 & 18). The course resembles a "Heathland" golf course with wide fairways and exceptional views of the sea and nearby mountains. The rest of the holes pass through a valley, where water hazards such as a stream and lakes remain from the original design.

Alcaidesa Links Golf Club

Alcaidesa Links Golf Club, designed by Peter Ellis and Clive Clark, stretches from the Torrecarbonera lighthouse to Loma del Rey. Playing golf here, next to the seashore, is a unique experience as this is the only course of its kind in Andalusia.

Alcaidesa (Torrecarbonera y Hacienda)

This is an almost natural rustic beach that has been awarded Blue Flag status by virtue of its clean waters, which also give it its nickname "The Resort". Alcaidesa beach also has an official nudist area.

Almenara Hotel-Golf

Dave Thomas has created a 27 hole course that would pose a challenge for even the most experienced of golfers due to its undulating fairways and deep bunkers. This is a course for thinkers, which requires planning before reaching for the driver, and the greens are comparable to those of the best courses that you could think of. Anyone who plays this course always wants to come back for more.
